As The District Turns - Part II

March 10th, 2006, 4:27 am by Sharon

We met at Sunland Village off Greenfield and Diamond Avenue, the evening of March 9. Very well attended, facilitated by Sunland Village Board Member Pat Huruff. Councilmember Thom and candidate hopeful Scott Somers gave us a background of their experience and reasons for wanting to serve the city as a councilmember in District 6. Clearly, two different visions.Councilmember Thom stated several times there is no critical budget crisis and offered no solution for growth and funding other than what we currently have which has put us in the hole and financially dry. Somers sees the need for economic success, quality services in a growing community, William Gateway without a new tract of homes in the airport’s runway path, sees a city in need of a stable revenue source, in favor of an independent auditor, regular sunset reviews of the budget, not in favor of taxes but realizes there is a real need. Conservative but realistic, he would like to move ahead with caution so the city is able to realize funding it can count on each year.My vote is for Scott.
