Other Proposition In May

April 26th, 2006, 3:34 pm · 3 Comments · posted by steveikeda

We’ve talked a lot about the sales and property tax issues on the May ballot, but what about the others?Proposition 100, without going into detail, is designed to streamline the zoning process. Critics say that this proposition will limit the concerns the public may have about certain zoning cases.

Proposition 101 is for the hiring of an auditor. This auditor will report directly to the city coucil. Mesa will spend $374,000 to hire this auditor to find wasteful spending by the city.

These two issues have far reaching consequences to the future of Mesa also.

Thanks for the reminder — I will send in my early ballot now with YES, YES, YES, YES!

Proposition 100 - A YES vote will streamline the zoning process by excluding City Zoning Ordinances from the current required public hearing and citizen participation.

Right now every proposed ordinance involves posting, publishing, and public hearing processes — all of which cause delays in all of the city zoning requests and of course require additional expense from the city budget.

To exclude zoning ordinances would expedite projects and help toward keeping us in pace with our growth and in close competition with surrounding cities who are capitalizing on new business, housing, and the zoning changes needed to move forward.

Critics will want to micro manage every single one.

Proposition 101 - A YES vote will make a provision to establish a Council appointed City Auditor position. A City Auditor position will conduct audits as requested by the City Council or City Manager and will serve at the pleasure of the Council.

It is very important to regularly audit areas within city government - it is good for accountability and promotes efficiency.

To vote against this measure is an opportunity missed to implement the auditor postion.

Hiring an Auditor for $347,000 to find wasteful spending….

Amazing. Here Mr. Ikeda and Ms. Corea are claiming Mesa has no funds for “essential services.”

Yes For Mesa, which they both support, claims that Budget cuts are no longer possible.

Yet, the City wants to spend $347,000 to hire an auditor which “will serve at the pleasure of the Council” - per the Proposition - to find wasteful spending.

    What a joke.

Apparently, all those wanting a Property Tax, now want to save you money by hiring an Auditor.

So why the Property Tax if the City suppossedly has cut expenses as much as it can?

They claim it takes $1 Million annually to operate a Fire Station. But yet they have about a third to spend on hiring an Auditor to save more money.

    A bunch of hypocritical nonsense.
