Even though Mesa ranks 48th out of the 50 largest cities in the US and is lower than Phoenix, Scottsdale, Tempe, Chandler, and Gilbert in cost of government. Mesa has done more with less money than just about any city in Arizona or the US.On paper, that looks good, but the problem is that along with our cost of living being low, so is our living standard and image. Mesa will have to pay more for its crumbling infrastructure and longer response time for fire, police, and other emergency calls. Without additional sources of reliable revenue, Mesa will continue to lag behind other cities in the valley and the nation.
