O’Connor’s Estate Sale

July 4th, 2006, 5:51 am by Sharon

The late actor Donald O’Connor lived in the Village of Oak Creek. His wife Gloria held an estate sale that brought in one Mesa resident and friend of mine.On the front page of the Tribune, Saturday, July 1 you will see a photo of my friend - Patrick Cavallero of Mesa - trying on a jacket that belonged to O’Connor. Visiting with Patrick on Sunday I found that he made quite a few purchases including several of the actor’s dancing shoes. As a fan, a dancer himself, and teacher of dance it was no surprise that Patrick knew O’Connor’s shoes would fit, and they did!Gloria O’Connor was quite gracious in deciding to share her husband’s treasures with the community that was so good to them. With free admission to the sale it gave many more people the opportunity to purchase something to remember Donald O’Connor by. One of his movies most remember is "Singin’ in the Rain," co-starring with Gene Kelly.Donald O’Connor died 3 years ago; his wife recently decided to sell the home and all his collectibles in order to move to CA to be closer to her 3 children. I’m happy for Patrick that he was able to bring home some of the treasures that mean so much to him along with others that had a chance to purchase a favorite piece - like Jack and Sidney Epstein of Sedona who purchased the 1985 Rolls-Royce with 53,000 miles on it and a Baldwin baby grand piano.Good shopping!
