Legal Advice FREE

August 11th, 2006, 1:14 pm by Sharon

Today I called the Crime Prevention Unit, Mesa PD and spoke to Karen Stegenga, Crime Prevention Specialist whose area is Elder Abuse; I found that is a place to go if you have legal matters to discuss - without cost. Each Tuesday, the Maricopa County Attorney General provides assistance at the Red Mountain Multi-Generational Center. Time is 9:00 AM to 11:30 AM. I encourage all those that have questions about matters they are not sure of, to look into this is - it’s the place to go!Trained volunteers will be able to sit down with you and discuss questions you have and help direct you or suggest what re-course you have in a given situation.Rencenty, Ron and Cathy wrote in with their situation in Dreamland Villa which is actually covered by the Maricopa County Sheriff’s Office because the property is within an island in Mesa. However, when it comes to a civil matter it’s quite easy to go to the Red Mountain Center Tuesday mornings. A crime of course would include your contacting law enforcement. The Red Mountain Multi-Generational Center is located off Adobe Ave. east of Power Road and the service is free.

Welcome Home Chief Gascon

Chief Gascon & Sharon CoreaThere was a lot of excitement and anticipation as many of us had the opportunity to visit with and welcome Mesa’s new Chief of Police, George Gascon. After brief comments from City Manager Chris Brady, a presentation of the color guard by Mesa PD, Mayor Hawker opened the formal meeting; we were privileged to witness the swearing in of our new Chief.I found Chief Gascon to be personable, friendly, focused, with an unmistakable strength and fortitude that comes from someone assured of who he is, confident, yet with great humility. Chief Gascon had many friends and family in attendance - joining with him in celebrating this next step in his career. He paused to personally thank his parents who were in attendance; a great example in honoring and thanking our parents no matter what age we are, or what profession we’re in. I was touched.LAPD Chief of Police William Bratton also made the trip and spoke of Gascon’s remarkable career, underscoring his abilities, leadership qualities, work ethics, and commitment to the department - the men and women he works with, describing our new Chief as a "premier" professional that will continue to lead an already superb Mesa Police Department to even greater heights. One of my colleagues in the Mesa Citizen Police Academy Alumni Association, Ginger Kennedy, became quickly known and mentioned by the Chief - Ginger’s late mother Connie Speck, was the first female Lt. working for the LAPD, later promoted as the first female Captain within the department - leaving the department several years after Gascon was hired on by LAPD.Phil Austin, Attorney and President, Mesa Association of Hispanic Citizens also spoke highly of the Chief, endorsed fully by the Hispanic citizens in Mesa. It was an evening many have been waiting for - we all realized it was well worth the wait. Welcome to Mesa Chief Gascon!Photos from the reception turned out great — I’ll try to upload them!
