The Loss of Dr. John Kerr

May 22nd, 2007, 10:42 am by steveikeda

Mesa lost another great individual in Dr. John Kerr.I knew Dr. Kerr from the Hohokams. We parked the same parking lot during spring training cubs games at Hohokam park. Dr. Kerr was very active in the community and was a member of numerous boards and committees including a founder of Sunshine Acres, member of the United Way, and of course the Mesa Hohokams. He gave much of his time donating his medical services to both the young and old.I noticed that this past spring training season that he had a much more difficult time working the parking lot, but inspite of repeated questions on how he was doing, he would just reply "I’m doing fine".We’ll all miss this great individual. He’s an example of how we whould all live our lives.

JT Ready Speaks His Mind

May 8th, 2007, 8:30 am by steveikeda

The city council meeting on Monday had its usual agenda of items and all went pretty smoothly. That is, until the meeting was adjourned. Then Mr. Ready spoke up.Ready, disappointed at not being allowed to speak during the council meeting, yelled out his displeasure and called the city council unjust. Apparently, Ready failed to fill out a blue comment card in time and was not allowed to speak at the podium.Later, outside the council chambers, he spoke to news reporters about how the city and police department are calling him a terrorist and of taking his car away.Ready, who ran for a city council seat last year, has been very vocal about immigration and is also suspected of being associated with neo-nazi groups.

Dead Body of House Owner Found by Home Buyers

May 2nd, 2007, 10:52 am by steveikeda

I was reading in this news site where the body of a home owner was found by propective buyers touring the house. This article reminds me of some times when I’ve shown property and come accross the owners sleeping or in the bathrooms. In my defense, the listing information sheet directed me to call first then show inwhich I complied, but sometimes, as this article illustrates, some unexpected situations do arise.Hopefully, I’ll never come accross a dead body!

Mesa’s Second Friday Night

April 14th, 2007, 8:02 am by steveikeda

Lot of activity and excitement going on!Posh Nosh had a cook stir frying some goodies, Mesa Arts Center had a performance, there were a couple of guys in costumes as large birds, and a lot of people looking like they were really enjoying the festivities. Even councilman Kyle Jones positively commented on the difficulty in finding a parking place.Looks like these Friday nights might be here to stay.

T Rex a Chicken!

April 12th, 2007, 2:06 pm by steveikeda

I was reading on CNN that there is genetic proof that T-Rex is a distant relative to the chicken! Wow, I was sort of thinking an eagle or condor. I guess you never know where your genes will take you.

Possible 57 Townhomes Planned to Built on West Main!

March 30th, 2007, 12:04 pm by steveikeda

Development planned on the Tracker Marine site on Main Street just west of Alma School.Designed by archetect Fred Woods, this development would total 57 units with 13 of these units being "loft style" with commercial store fronts on the ground floor. Unique to this development would be a courtyard style design incorporating the old Mesa train depot that once existed in Mesa before the station burned down in 1989.Concerns of the neighbors which will border this project to the north are being discussed, but if things can be worked out, this would be a great project for Mesa!Comments about this project are welcome.

Mesa to Proceed with Negotiations with Waveyard

December 18th, 2006, 8:25 pm by steveikeda

Even councilman Tom Rawls agreed that Mesa should continue negotiations with Waveyard. The councilman said that he realizes that in his idealistic world that cities should not give incentative packages to developers, but in today’s real world thats exactly what’s being done."Its not a slam dunk that I’ll be for it all the way to the end, but for now I think its a great project for the city and that we should move forward on it" said concilman Rawls. He also mentioned that the alternative would be to have one one of the richest gravel pits around! We’ll be hearing alot more from Waveyard in the future!Additional comments welcome

Here comes Menopause

December 7th, 2006, 3:12 pm by steveikeda

I was listening to the radio a couple of days ago and heard this song….sung to the tune of "Here Comes Santa Clause". But instead of the words stated in the correct title, the words "Here Comes Menopause" were substituted instead. The song went on to poke fun of the condition women face in life and though I have to admit I did find it amusing, I wonder if it goes too far in making fun of people.I’m just wondering if anyone else has hear this song?Comments welcome
