I hope the TTribune actually publishes a follow-up to this story! What a great event! Over 250 people were seen and helped....more than ever before at one of these events. And the kindness and respect offered, with those needing help regarded as welcome guests made the event a wonderful opportunity ofr everyone who was involved. Kudos to Mike, Amy, and the staff from United Way, the staff from Mesa's Human Services, Everyone from City of Grace church at University east of Mesa Drive, all the agencies, volunteers and those who came to the event-Thank you. You made it worthwhile and memorable. I am happy I could be there.

T Wright,

I completely agree with you about having the libraries in Mesa open longer on the weekends and on Sunday! The hours were cut due to budget constraints; voters made that decision when voting against the property tax issue. Many budget hearings took place at the time in an effort to educate residents.

While a member of the City of Mesa Library Board I stood at Red Mountain Libray on a Sunday, counting the cars and families that came to visit and explaining why the library hours were cut. It was sad to see so many young people turned away, not able to do what is so advantageous to learning - reading, research, and doing their homework.

I don't know, but maybe residents were not paying attention during that vote or didn't believe what they were told about cutting some services. Look on the City of Mesa website, the Library is listed their - also contact information the area you wish to email.

Thanks for your input!

I believe not only are librarians in schools essential but also have a city library open later than 5 PM Fri. - Sun. is also very important. My children & I love to read but can't afford to go buy books at Borders or Barnes & Noble (who stay open until 10PM), frankly, we can't even afford to go to Bookmans for 1/2 price books very often. That is why having the library is so important. Today I got to the library just after 5 PM & realized it had just closed. While I was in the parking lot for only a few minutes I saw 4 other families arrive in hopes to visit the library as well and I am sure they were as disappointed as I was. We are lucky enough to have internet access at home but I am sure there are families who rely on the library for that luxury. The library is an important asset for students who are writing reports for school as well. I have done an internet search trying to find a phone # or e-mail address to try to get my voice heard and get others to do the same. The library hours need to be extended Fri. - Sun. in Mesa. The post office is open until 6 pm, book stores are open until 10 pm. Why does the library close at 5 pm?????

Sharon,,,,Why do people feel they must make testamonials to prove god is. It just seems to me that if god wanted anybody to know of god then it wouldn.t expect one to know of god threw some delusional person. Can.t this god be up front with every body. You are right in stateing I have no proof there is no god but, then again it works the other way also. Just because there is a sun in the sky and there is sky doesn.t nessecarly prove a god. I don't know which god you are talking about,,,but I hope it's not that insane one the bible speaks of. This gods track record of heavens doesn't not prove a god to me. Or in it's creations either. Where it has to go to plan B after a number of years. This is also the same god that is more interested as to how you look at your nieghbors wife than if you own 40 humans as slaves. I want nothing to do with anybody or any god that loves slave owners.

As a former missionary to Chile, I have recently had contact with a friend from Santiago's marxist barrios during the Allende years. He has educated four children at no expense to the government... they are now in management positions with companies on the east coast. They are among the most responsible, witty, and red blooded Americans I know. How about some articles on these kinds of immigrants to our fair and balanced state of Arizona.

The issue is this: Americans, who are the TRUE IMMIGRANTS are calling the Mexicans Immigrants, but the Mexicans, who are INDIGENOUS, are in their own Homeland.

Mexicans were here before Americans ever existed on this continent. In FACT, they were already known as "Mexican", a thousand years before the Americans IMMIGRATED to this land. Mexicans [me:shijka] belong the the Uto-Nahua ethno-linguistic group that stretches from Canada to Nicaragua, and thats just the Mexicans. Thats not counting the hundreds of other ethnic Indigenous people IN Mexico who are also related to Indigenous people north of the Rio Grande, like the MAYA, TOTONACO, HUASTECOS, CHICHIMECAS, ETC.

Let's be real, if Mexicans are NOT Immigrants, then why is there such a frenzy to deport them en mass? Could it be that COLONIZATION of the Indigenous people is still occurring?

Who are the Immigrants? The Americans!

Don't call me a Native American, call me a Native Mexican...the name of MEXICAN has been around on this continent for over 1,000 years as an INDIGENOUS NAME!

THE "american" name has been around for only the last 300 years by European Immigrants.

If the Americans want to deport people who are Immigrants, shouldn't they start with themselves?

Stop deporting Indigenous people! Stop treating us like we are foreigners to our HOMELAND!

Yeah...Africa is not a "country" hard hit by HIV/AIDS...Africa is a continent made up of several countries. Real nice, even those entrusted to report news are not quite literate.

Sorry to hear about the poor service you received. Unfortuneately because of the time of year, I can see the problems you might have about getting someone out to repair your AC. As for the poor restuarant service, that's really a shame. I enjoy eating at the Landmark restaurant which is located on the corner of Extension and Main Street and the Big Apple Restaurant located on Main Street between Horne and Stapley. The Cracker Barrell which just opened up at Riverview (North Dobson Road and the 202) is good also. Chik-A Fillet which also opened up there is really fast on service if you don't mind fast food.

Hope this helps you out.

My family and I moved to Mesa 1 month ago. We are excited to be part of a new community, however, we have some concerns. Our A/C went out on Sunday. No technician can come until Thursday. We went to a Mesa hotel. The air conditioner made cold air, but didn't blow it out. There was no running water until very late in the evening. Last night we went to a Village Inn for dinner. We were seated, then waited 15 minutes until the hostess came and took our drink order. She never returned. The restaurant began to fill up. After over 1/2 hour of waiting, a waitress came out from the kitchen, went to the table of the most recently seated, and asked to take their order. We left and went to Denny's. At Denny's, we were waiting so long for our food that the waitress offered us complimentary salad and soup. I gratefully accepted the salad, and shortly afterward, my husband's sandwich arrived with 1/2 of the french fries missing. We didn't ask. About the time my husband finished his meal, my plate of pasta arrived. I began to eat and in my first bite realized all the vegetables in the pasta dish were frozen rock solid. We paid our bill and went on our way. We are not complainers. We expect at least average service and don't expect to have to demand it forcibly. Are we out of step with the culture of Mesa? Would any long time Mesa resident share with me how you work around the service crisis that clearly exists here? We love our new home, and we want to be solid citizens, but we are not acustomed to this kind of service.
